Dollar Falls Below Expectation As Yen Strengthens

Concerns As Dollar Nears Two-week Low While Yen Strengthens The dollar was falling today, weighed by growing expectations the Federal Reserve, would adopt a more accommodative policy outlook this week and concerns about slower U.S. economic growth. The dollar index, which measures the greenback against a basket of six major currencies, dipped 0.1 percent to 96.43, hovering close to a two-week low touched overnight. The index has lost 1.3 per cent after hitting a three-month high of 97.710 on March 7, on views the Federal will strike a dovish tone at its two-day policy meeting due to start later on Tuesday. Police Speak On Arresting Kano Deputy Governor

The  Kano State  Police Command has cleared the state Deputy Governor, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, who was taken to the CID unit of the command in the early hours of Monday over alleged disruption of results collation process for Saturday’s gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections. Gawuna, who is also the running mate to the incumbent governor and the candidate of the APC, Dr.  Abdullahi Umar Ganduje , was taken to the command headquarters along with the state’s Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Murtala Sule Garo and the Executive Chairman of Nassarawa Local Government Area, Lamin Sani. Police said Gawuna was at the collation centre to observe the process but was not involved in the alleged result sheets snatching. Speaking to newsmen on Monday, the spokesman of Kano Police Command, Abdullahi Haruna, said the deputy governor was not arrested as it was captured in media reports. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday, March 9, conducted governorship elections across 29 out of 36 states across Nigeria and state House of Assembly elections across the country. The electoral commission on Sunday, March 10, commenced official collation of the governorship results. While results in some states have been collated and winners announced, collations are still ongoing in some states. Also, INEC has declared the  elections in some states inconclusive.
