Uniport wins 14th West African Universities Games

University of Port Harcourt has won the 14th West Africa Universities Games (WAUG) which it hosted.
Semi-final male volleyball event of the first National Youth Games between teams FCT (White) and Abia in Abuja.
The university emerged the overall winner of the competition on Sunday after winning 75 gold, 36 silver and 24 bronze to top the medals table.
It finished the games on a remarkable note by winning all gold medals in swimming, hockey, chess and taekwondo.
University of Lagos came second with 16 gold, 24 silver and 16 bronze medals.
Ghana’s representative, University of Cape Coast, won nine gold, three silver and four bronze to finish third at the 13-day event.
Obafemi Awolowo University was awarded the best team of the competition, while the fair play award went to Kano State University of Science and Technology (KUST).
KUST Chief Coach, Abdulsalam Garba, won the competition’s best coach award.
No fewer than 5,000 student-athletes from 16 West African countries competed in 16 sports in the tournament.
They competed in athletics, swimming, judo, tennis, badminton, table tennis, squash, chess, football, javelin, volleyball, handball, basketball, hockey, taekwondo and cricket.

Ethan Ampadu Signs Five Year Extension Deal With Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder, Ethan Ampadu  has signed a new five year contract extension with the club, on Wednesday. Ampadu, who plays for Wales has been battling to settle in the starting line up of Chelsea’s coach, Maurizio Sarri this season. The player in time past had stated that he was putting all efforts together so has to be included in the starting line up of the club. “ I’m really proud and happy, ” ESPN quoted Ampadu as saying. “ I’m looking forward to the next five years and all I have got to do now is continue to work hard, and hopefully good things will happen .”
